Anthropic and xAI Announce Surprise Compute Partnership

In a striking move that highlights the intense scramble for AI infrastructure, Anthropic and xAI announced a major compute partnership on May 6, 2026. Under the deal, xAI will grant Anthropic full access to Colossus 1, its massive AI supercomputer in Memphis, Tennessee. The facility houses more than 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs and delivers over 300 megawatts of capacity.

Anthropic, maker of the Claude models, said the additional power will immediately boost service for Claude Pro and Claude Max subscribers while raising usage limits for Claude Code and the Claude API.
