Gemini 3.5 Pro Was Supposed to Drop Aug. 6?! Rumors Say Google Hit the Brakes AGAIN

Google’s next monster AI model may have just pulled another disappearing act.

Gemini 3.5 Pro has been sitting in the “coming soon” zone for what feels like forever — and now the AI rumor mill is buzzing that August 6 may have been another potential launch window ... only for Google to apparently keep the model behind the curtain.

And depending on which corner of the AI internet you’re hanging around in, people are already asking the obvious question: Did Google discover more problems at the last minute?

🚨 AUGUST 6 CAME ... GEMINI 3.5 PRO DIDN’T

There was plenty of chatter heading into Aug. 6 that Google could finally unleash Gemini 3.5 Pro, especially after users reported spotting what they believed could be versions of the upcoming model appearing through AI testing platforms like Arena.

One Aug. 6 discussion on the Gemini community even claimed 3.5 Pro had appeared on Arena, while users immediately pointed out that suspected versions of the model had reportedly popped up before — and then vanished. That’s hardly an official launch announcement, but it was enough to get AI watchers refreshing their screens.

Then ... nothing.

No giant Google announcement. No broad Gemini 3.5 Pro rollout. No shiny new model sitting inside everyone’s Gemini account.

Instead, Google DeepMind’s own Gemini page still lists “3.5 Pro coming soon.”

👀 SO ... DID GLITCHES KILL THE LAUNCH?

Here’s where things get spicy — and also where we need to separate rumor from confirmed reporting.

There has been online speculation that Google encountered additional bugs, instability or other last-minute glitches while testing the model. Gemini users were also reporting unrelated stalling and performance weirdness around Aug. 6, adding even more fuel to the theory that something behind the scenes wasn’t behaving properly.

But Google has NOT publicly confirmed that an Aug. 6 Gemini 3.5 Pro launch was scheduled — or that technical glitches specifically caused it to be canceled.

What we do know is that Gemini 3.5 Pro has already suffered a very real delay.

💻 GOOGLE’S BIGGEST HEADACHE? CODING.

Gemini 3.5 Pro was originally expected much earlier. Google announced the 3.5 generation at I/O and indicated that Pro would arrive in June.

June came and went.

Then reporting from Bloomberg, subsequently covered by Reuters, revealed Google was taking extra time because the model was failing to meet internal performance goals — particularly when it came to coding.

According to that reporting, Google had even updated training data in an attempt to improve Gemini’s coding abilities, but the results were reportedly disappointing.

Translation: Google apparently doesn’t want to walk into the AI heavyweight fight carrying a model that gets knocked out in one of the industry’s most important categories.

🥊 THE AI RACE ISN’T WAITING

And that’s what makes the situation uncomfortable for Google.

While Gemini 3.5 Pro remains backstage getting tuned up, companies including OpenAI and Anthropic have continued pumping out increasingly powerful models — turning coding, autonomous agents and long-horizon reasoning into one of the biggest battlegrounds in AI.

Google has released other Gemini models in the meantime, including Gemini 3.6 Flash and 3.5 Flash-Lite, but its flagship Pro upgrade remains conspicuously absent. TechCrunch reported in July that Google was still testing Gemini 3.5 Pro with partners rather than releasing it broadly.

🔥 GEMINI 3.5 PRO: COMING SOON ... SERIOUSLY THIS TIME?

So was Gemini 3.5 Pro actually scheduled for Aug. 6 before Google discovered another batch of glitches and yanked the emergency brake?

Maybe — but right now, that part remains rumor.

There’s enough smoke to explain why AI watchers thought something might be happening, especially with reported Arena appearances and weeks of “coming soon” messaging. But there’s currently no public Google announcement confirming an Aug. 6 release date or a last-minute glitch-related cancellation.

What isn’t rumor is that Gemini 3.5 Pro is late, Google is still testing it, and previous reporting says performance problems — especially coding — are a major reason it hasn’t reached everyone yet.

At this point, Google might want to change “coming soon” to “coming when it stops breaking our benchmarks.”
