Claude Rumor Mill Heats Up: Opus 5.6 and Mythos 5.5 Remain Unconfirmed

Claude fans, put the launch-party snacks back in the cupboard. Rumors about Anthropic’s next AI models are flying, but the company hasn’t announced Claude Opus 5.6 or Mythos 5.5—and a mysterious website clue isn’t the same thing as a release date.

A November 2 report from Hyperdev rounded up speculation about Opus 5.6, Mythos 5.5 and another possible model, Fable 5.5. The chatter includes alleged testing and guessed launch dates. But the report was clear: the names and timing were not confirmed by Anthropic.

The website clue that got tongues wagging

Here’s the juicy bit: an Internet Archive capture examined by Hugin showed the name Mythos 5.5 in a hidden heading and image-description text on Anthropic’s Mythos page on October 31. By a November 1 capture, those fields read Mythos 5.1.

Before anyone declares a secret launch, the page’s visible content in the October capture still described Mythos 5.1. It offered no new model pricing, access terms or release date. And nobody in the reporting established why the hidden text changed.

That distinction matters: a name appearing in page code is a clue, not proof that a finished model is ready to roll.

What about Opus 5.6?

Hyperdev also cited an October report from The Information about an unnamed tester who described a model that could spot a broader class of software problems while fixing a bug. But the model in that report wasn’t identified as Opus 5.6. That name remains a guess, not an official label.

The November 2 roundup mentioned November 3 and November 10 as speculative dates. November 3 has since passed, and Anthropic’s model announcements do not list Opus 5.6 or Mythos 5.5. November 10 is still a rumor—not a date the company has confirmed.

What’s actually on the menu

Anthropic introduced Opus 5.5 on September 22, saying it improved coding and other tasks while costing less to run than Opus 5 on typical workloads. Its Mythos page identifies Mythos 5.1 as the current model and says access is limited to vetted organizations.

Bottom line: there’s a real website breadcrumb and plenty of online buzz. Whether either leads to a new Claude release—and when—is still Anthropic’s story to tell.
